Hagneepath 2012

Agneepath (2012)

*ing: Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, Rishi Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra

The movie is about Vijay (Hrithik) who, as a child, witnesses the murder of his father in his native town - Mandwa. Kancha bhau (Sanjay Dutt), a heroin businessman, is the schemer and the main stakeholder for the murder. Vijay and his mother abandon Mandwa and settle in Mumbai. He grows up being part of the Mumbai underworld (?). His aim is to become as powerful as Kancha in order to avenge his father's murder.

Director: Karan Malhotra

Music: Ajay-Atul (the beauty of the marathi version of Chikni Chameli was the rustic male voice which is sorely missed)

Pros:
- The title and some names (character + location)  resemble a cult movie
- Rishi Kapoor as Rauf Lala makes a super-kameena character
- Sanjay Dutt as Kancha bhau looks menacing with his no-hair-no-eyebrows look
- Katrina Kaif's Chikni Chameli provides the refresher in the otherwise tense environment

Cons:
- Comparisons with the namesake is inevitable from the pre-release
- The characters of Vijay's dad, mom and sister seem half-baked almost like the director assumes that people are already aware of them

Things I remember:
- The appearance and disappearance of greenish shade on the scalp of Sanjay Dutt almost breaks the continuity of some scenes.
- Vijay stabs his childhood enemy at the beach during Ganesh visarjan and whispers to him "Naam Vijay Chauhan... Vijay Dinanath Chauhan... poora naam... baap ka naam master Dinanath". The scene gets help from the Nashik dhol background music and gulaal. For me, this is the only scene where Vijay appeared angry.
- Vijay and his mom travel from Mandwa by boat and land at Dockyard and then settle in a chawl Dongri.
- People in the theatre yawning :P

Trivia:
This is not the first time that the Chikni Chameli tune has appeared in a hindi movie. I had blogged about it earlier in the trivia section of another phillum post here.
